Our next finalists that we got to meet with again is Kieran Leyland who’ll be competing in the Heavy Vehicle Engineering sector at the Skills Show. We visited Kieran at his College and met with two of his employers, more about Kieran below…
College – Stephenson College – Volvo Academy
Employer – Ryder
Kieran is from Stephenson College and works for Ryder. Having successfully made it through the National Qualifiers, Kieran is looking forward to the finals, especially the hotel!
“I’ve always been into cars so it was a natural progression to join the industry, I’ve never looked back. I did work experience in the HV sector and realised I preffered that to working on cars.
I enjoyed the challenge of it. It’s good to be out of your comfort zone. It helped me cope under pressure, you don’t have anyone to ask for help which is different to your workplace so you have to work off of your own initiative.
I’m really looking forward to the challenge. It’s something different. The hotel looks amazing! The whole experience will be really good. I’d definitely recommend this competition to others.
In the future I’d like to progress within the company, I really enjoy what I do.”
Hobbies – Anything cars
Favourite car – BMW M3
Best part of the job – Reward of fixing something
